Canterbury Race 3-2 MONTEREY ROAD 2nd $1.40
Not the best to begin, however still got a nice run 4th the fence. Eased around the leaders heals on the turn and chased the leader hard, however overhauled late to just get beat.
Caymans raced wide without cover.Caymans hung out rounding the home turn.Caymans then wanted to lay in in the straight hampering Nato and to a lesser extent Grand Couture approaching the 300m.Inside the 200m Caymans shifted in again when struck with the whip.
Today's racing is like the grand final day at the football, when all the best battle it out to see who takes home the big prize. My Cox Plate tip last week Zipping came 2nd, and it was an adventurous ride by Danny. This week’s tip in the big one is LARRY'S NEVER LATE, who made good ground late and looks like a real dower stayer. He would defiantly be worth putting him in your quinellas. My good thing for today is below...

Warwick Farm 21/10/08
Briolette – Lightly raced improving filly from the Bart Cummings stable. Settled last over the 1400m at start number three before making ground along the fence approaching the turn. Worked home gamely but raced a bit greenly under pressure (as she did at her previous start) and looks open to plenty of improvement. Extra distance may also assist so keep an eye on her when next presented. Longterm blackbooker.
Canterbury 22/10/08
I’m Ruthless – Well bred three-year-old colt from the Joe Pride camp. Was having only his second start when tackled 1100m at Canterbury and showed good natural pace to settle outside the leader. Was outpaced on turning and looked likely to fade but knuckled down strongly and would have reeled in the leader but for ducking in at the 100m mark. Still learning the trade and is open to improvement. Can pay his way for punters in the near future.
Rosehill 25/10/08
Running To Win – Turned in a real eye-catcher when resuming over 1400m. Restrained to last by Hugh Bowman from a wide draw, the leaders didn’t go hard enough to set the race up for backmarkers. Hugh opted to save ground coming into the straight and wound-up gamely through the pack. Was a bit tight on the wire and should have finished closer. Will definitely take benefit from the run and can only improve next time and the time after that. Check below for the sectional times. A definite blackbooker.

Moonee Valley 25/10/08
BAWAARDI – This son of Redoute’s Choice took 400 metres to work out what racing was all about when making his debut last Saturday. Bawaardi was back in the ruck on the home turn before producing a strong finishing burst in the straight to be beaten three-quarters of a length. Bawaardi is a half-brother to the two-year-old stakes winner Freestyle and will prove to be a very handy juvenile on a bigger track.
C’EST LA GUERRE – As has been widely reported in the aftermath, the Cox Plate was a one-act affair with Maldivian getting away with murder from the 1600 metres to the 600 metres. C'est La Guerre's sectional time was unavailable but he was held up a couple of times in the run to the line but was the best of the backmarkers. His last two runs have been excellent and the New Zealand Derby winner is coming along beautifully for the Melbourne Cup.
PERMISSION TO LAND – Put simply, this mare was as stiff as a board in the Inglis Mile. After settling in a nice slot midfield, pilot error saw Permission to Land back near last on the home turn before running on well until stopped in her tracks with 75 metres to go. The John O’Shea mare picked herself up and launched herself at the finish line to just miss. There is no doubt she should have won the race and it will be interesting to see if trainer John O’Shea joins the list of those that have barred Craig Williams from riding their horses.

his mount overraced badly throughout and was inclined to hang out on the turns. He added that as
a result, when crossed early by Armstrong Jones, he came to the outside of the heels of that
runner as he felt Baby Casino was travelling too strongly to take a trail behind that runner.

There’s some that ride the robbo style, and bump at every stride;
While others sit along way back, to get a longer ride.
There’s some that ride like sailors do, with legs, and arms, and teeth;
And some that ride on horse’s neck, and some ride underneath.
But all the finest horsemen out-the men to beat the band-
You’ll find amongst the crowd that ride their races in the stand.
They’ll say, “He had the race in hand, and lost it in the straight”.
They’ll show how Godby came too soon, and barden came to late.
They’ll say Chevalley lost his nerve, and Regan lost his head;
They’ll tell how one was “livened up” and something else was “dead”-
In fact, the race was never run on sea, or sky, or land,
But what you’d get it better done by riders in the stand.
The rule holds good in everything in life’s uncertain fight ;
You’ll find the winner can’t go wrong, the loser can’t go right.
You ride a slashing race, and lose-by one and all you’re banned!
Ride like a bag of flour, and win-they’ll cheer you in the stand.

Today’s racing is extraordinary, with big quality fields and quality jockey in all the eastern states. Today is one of those day where you have to look through the haystack to find the needle. Although there is one good thing at Caulfield today and I think some value elsewhere. Heres to a good day’s punting, If your looking for today's Free tip look below....
Melbourne Cup Day Tips
One of the world's most challenging horse races
The Melbourne Cup is one of the world's most challenging horse races and is the richest race in Australia, and it is the highlight of the Spring Racing Carnival. The race is run over 3,200 metres and is a handicapped race, this means the better horse carries the most weight . The distance and the handicap ensure that the Melbourne Cup is a horse race in which the occasional punter really has no chance of picking the winner.

Canterbury 8/10/08
Friday Nights – Lightly raced Anabaa four-year-old from the Tim Martin stable and looks ready to produce the goods now after a very soft win in midweek company over the 1550m. Handled by Corey Brown, Friday Nights landed straight on the bunny and despite having a runner camped right outside him travelled sweetly and within himself throughout. Brown clicked him up rounding the turn and this strong gelding responded – kicking away for a smart win. A mile won’t pose any problems and looks the type that could get up to 2000m and really dominate at that level.
Northern Meteor – Had his first run for the Waterhouse camp and had the blinkers on first time when treating midweek rivals with absolute disdain over the 1250m. Sat outside the lead before accelerating 400m out and leaving rivals stranded. Put a gap in them very quickly before going right on with the job. You don’t see many more dominant wins at midweek meetings and the fact Gai is throwing him straight into the Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday suggests he’s every bit as good as he looks.
Rosehill 11/10/08
Raise – Best run of the week and an absolute must for your blackbook. Restrained early when resuming over 1400m, she raced a little keenly before settling well back one off the fence. The pace was solid up front with Jeff Lloyd deciding to rev her up approaching the turn. Improved very quickly and when another runner shifted ground in front of her Lloyd was forced to the extreme outside – losing at least one length. Once balanced she motored into fourth position and clearly hit the line better than any other runner. Not a renowned first-up performer and better over further, it was a cracking return. Follow.
Rendzina – Bit of a smokey for the value punters in weeks to come. With only one win from 20 starts she is hardly the most bankable mare in the business but her two runs this time in have been good and she could have almost got away with a handy mares event on Saturday if luck had gone her way. Settling well back in the run the speed had been slow up front making it tough for the backmarkers and when Rendzina became held-up and forced back to the inside at the top of the straight her chances looked gone. Peter Wells got her going but at the 150m had to steady off heels and lost her momentum. Picked-up again very late and hit the line with plenty up the sleeve. Worth something next start.Melbourne by Brad Waters
Caulfield 10/10/08
Zizz – This Matthew Ellerton-trained colt probably had every chance in the opening event at Caulfield last Saturday but his effort was still terrific. The Hurricane Sky three-year-old had only had one career run before that run for a win in a Seymour maiden. At Caulfield, Zizz ran into a very smart horse in Eclair Fantastic but he won’t be meeting him at his next start and the punters will get value about him over the Flemington carnival.
C’Est la Guerre – In the Yalumba Stakes, this bloke produced his best effort since joining the Lloyd Williams camp after his NZ Derby success. After settling back in a moderately-run race, the son of Shinko King got the line well enough to suggest that he is coming along beautifully for his next assignment which will probably be in the Moonee Valley Cup on Cox Plate day. The Lloyd Williams operation have dominated the MV Cup in recent years, winning it with Zipping and Gallic in the last two runnings of the event.
Pillar of Hercules – He drew wide in the GI Toorak Handicap and did all of the donkey work out three wide without cover throughout the race with the eventual winner, Alamosa, using him for cover before peeling off his back at the 600 metres. The Peter Moody-trained stallion was entitled to drop out and run down the track in the Toorak Handicap but stuck on in a gutsy fashion to tough it out for third. All four of his runs since a spell have been very good and he’s ready to win if he gets the right draw in the Emirates Stakes.

Bendigo Race 5-12 VALIDATOR unplaced
Got back to 2nd last outside eventual winner, as expected. Was clipping heels and the jock kept looking for inside runs, ran into 2 dead ends in the straight and was interfered with by the winner just as he started to get going. Certainty beaten (Steward Report) Prior to correct weight D. Moor rider of Validator 6th placegetter viewed the official video in the straight before deciding not to proceed with an objection.D. Moor rider of Validator pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that he permitted his mount to shift out near the 300 metres to obtain clear running resulting in Unrestrained being taken out onto Sailor Salute which in turn was taken out onto Kaisership consequently Sailor Salute had to be checked. Stewards conceded there was a minor shift from Instructor which was racing to the outside of Kaisership. In arriving at their decision Stewards took into account his guilty plea and the fact that the suspension was during the spring carnival. D. Moor was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence midnight 3rd October 2008 and to expire midnight 10th October, 2008. a total of 8 meetings 2 city and 8 country

There are plenty of races on today's meetings, with both Sydney and Melbourne hosting ten events each. One of the rules I follow strictly as a punter is to be very selective in what race I invest in. After all you want the race to be run to suit your selection, speed maps are important as well as distances and the number of runners.
I got some inside mail from the Gold Coast today and the race map shows he will lead easy and make it a one-horse affair. Just like last Wednesday selection Romantic Journey. If your looking for today's free tip see below....

Sydney by Paul Joice Kensington 23/9/08
Detroit Song Broke through at fourth race start when up to 1800m and looks a real stayer in the making. Trained at Goulburn by Rick Worthington, this strong looking five-year-old son of Carnegie settled midfield on the rails with Larry Cassidy allowing him to stride-up three wide from the 500m. Had a bit to do turning for home but stretched out in great style and surged to the lead. Out of a Zabeel mare its a matter of how far
Canterbury 24/9/08
The Astronomer
Everyone with a TV or set of binoculars has found this one so be wary of its price when next at the races, but, you had to be mightily impressed by the debut win. The Guy Walter/Glen Boss combination was in trouble early when The Astronomer was checked/tightened and steadied off heels on settling. Losing his position the task became even more difficult at the 600m mark when again forced to steady and hook to the outside. Widest into the straight and still five lengths off the leaders it was an amazing finishing burst which saw The Astronomer round them up and stick his head out right on the post. Huge win, some query on what he beat and Canterbury can be a flattering course.
Randwick 27/9/08
Emperor Bonaparte
Arguably should have beaten Rhyno Chaser in the Dulcify (1800m). Slow into stride Jeff Lloyd allowed him to lob along in last position. Coming to the turn the speed quickened with Emperor Bonaparte travelling strongly but waiting for the final shot at them. Lloyds decision to save ground into the straight was a contentious one and between the 400-275m he had to weave a path through some tiring runners. Once balanced-up at the 250m he really charged to the line but the bird had flown. Bred to stay and races like a stayer. Hairy Had no luck in the Nivison (1200m) and should have finished much, much closer than her official 4.8 lens 10th. Drew well in the capacity field and settled nicely midfield one off the fence. Travelling strongly into the straight Hairy was beginning to wind-up when raced very tight inside the final 150m and could not be fully tested. Went to the post hard held and with clear running would have been fighting out the finish. Perhaps next time.
Melbourne by Brad WatersMoonee Valley 24/09/08
Vigor The Danny O'Brien stable has been unlucky in town recently and the run of Vigor was no exception at Moonee Valley. After having a nice trail in transit, the son of OReilly found trouble on the home turn when trying to angle out to make ground. Took a few strides to get balanced in the straight and was charging to the line when Raeburn got a miracle split to beat him by a whisker. Vigor is looking for more ground but his two runs from a spell indicate that a nice race will be his in the spring.
Prima Nova
This girl is one of the most durable mares going around. Anthony Cummings sent her around ten times in a very long autumn and winter preparation mid-year, performing with distinction throughout. At the Valley last Wednesday, Damien Oliver had her out the back on a day when it was very difficult to make ground out wide because of the configuration of the track. Once she got balanced in the straight, Prima Nova produced the best finish of the day to get beaten by a half-length after being six lengths off the lead at the 150 metres. All of Prima Novas best form has been in restricted class mares races, watch for her when placed properly.
Flemington - 28/09/08
Exceedingly Good
On first appearances, the run of Exceedingly Good was hardly worthy of a mention in a Racenet newsletter but a look at the weights shows exactly how good his effort was to be beaten a length and a quarter in open class. Exceedingly Good was weighted on the minimum with 53kg but was still disadvantaged at the weights against his older rivals. Most of his rivals carried less than weight-for-age but Exceedingly Good carried 2kg more than weight for age for a three-year-old colt. Colonel Parker and Chinchilla Rose carried weight-for-age in the race and were beaten by Exceedingly Good. Not many races are won by horses carrying more than weight-for-age. Follow him in a more suitable event

Canterbury Race 6-3 JOKU 1st $1.50-$1.00
Jumped to the lead, and was taken on down the back straight. Daniel pushed out of the fence to sit outside the leader. Shot away on the turn and never looked in doubt.
Eagle Farm Race 5-4 LADY RED Unplaced
Ridden well by the Apprentice Jock midfield the fence with a moderate speed. got out at the top of the straight however raced flat and never accelerated to finish them off.
Eagle Farm Race 7-3 KANE MOCHI unplaced
Given ever hope by glen, back behind the speed never left the fence on the turn, got up inside the leaders and never accelerated, he raced very one paced.

Mornington Race 5-4 LET LOUSHE $1st $2.00-$1.30
Jumped well and was straight into 3rd position and never closer than 3 wide. Made ground on the turn and shot away like the good thing it was. Started shorter than I hoped, but I’ll take 100% return any day.
Doomben Race 2-3 PAPAL JOY 3rd NTD
Raced handier today and looked to be travelling well on the turn, however one paced down the straight and even lost ground, disappointing effort.
Doomben Race 3-1 REGAL CASTANEA 1st $2.90-$1.60
This bloke has been a real good horse to us and Saturday was no exception Scottie rode his usual great ride. He knows this horse back to front, and gets the best out of him. No reason why we wont keep following him.
Doomben Race 6-4 WOODY 'N' BUZZ Unplaced
Got back to midfield and wide, made steady ground to the turn then faded.
(Stewards Report) Near the 1000m, WOODY ‘N' BUZZ had to be steadied off the heels of ONE EYED (J. Byrne), which shifted in. WOODY ‘N' BUZZ over raced on the heels of ONE EYED for a short distance thereafter. ONE EYED and WOODY ‘N' BUZZ raced wide throughout. WOODY ‘N' BUZZ lost its near hind plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination of WOODY ‘N' BUZZ failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Flemington Race 4-1 DANE JULIA 2nd$1.50
Jumped well and was wide early, being forced to go forward, and sit outside the leaders, which is not her go. Still travelling well at the 400m, however didn't find as much as the leader, who has been unlucky in the past.
Flemington Race 8-12 RAFFAELLO 1st $5.60-$1.80
Given a great ride by Nicolas running 4th/5th one out in moderate tempo. He was going that easy on the turn popped out 3 wide
to give himself a clear run at them, although still green and immature fort on strong to win
Shortly after entering the straight
Ashikaga shifted out and made contact with the tiring Bobadah. Near the 250m Bobadah had to be checked when tightened for room between Falaise, which hung in, and Ashikaga, which shifted out slightly.
