Welcome to my newsletter......1st November

Today's racing is like the grand final day at the football, when all the best battle it out to see who takes home the big prize. My Cox Plate tip last week Zipping came 2nd, and it was an adventurous ride by Danny. This week’s tip in the big one is LARRY'S NEVER LATE, who made good ground late and looks like a real dower stayer. He would defiantly be worth putting him in your quinellas. My good thing for today is below...

Briolette – Lightly raced improving filly from the Bart Cummings stable. Settled last over the 1400m at start number three before making ground along the fence approaching the turn. Worked home gamely but raced a bit greenly under pressure (as she did at her previous start) and looks open to plenty of improvement. Extra distance may also assist so keep an eye on her when next presented. Longterm blackbooker.

Canterbury 22/10/08

I’m Ruthless – Well bred three-year-old colt from the Joe Pride camp. Was having only his second start when tackled 1100m at Canterbury and showed good natural pace to settle outside the leader. Was outpaced on turning and looked likely to fade but knuckled down strongly and would have reeled in the leader but for ducking in at the 100m mark. Still learning the trade and is open to improvement. Can pay his way for punters in the near future.

Rosehill 25/10/08

Running To Win – Turned in a real eye-catcher when resuming over 1400m. Restrained to last by Hugh Bowman from a wide draw, the leaders didn’t go hard enough to set the race up for backmarkers. Hugh opted to save ground coming into the straight and wound-up gamely through the pack. Was a bit tight on the wire and should have finished closer. Will definitely take benefit from the run and can only improve next time and the time after that. Check below for the sectional times. A definite blackbooker.

BAWAARDI – This son of Redoute’s Choice took 400 metres to work out what racing was all about when making his debut last Saturday. Bawaardi was back in the ruck on the home turn before producing a strong finishing burst in the straight to be beaten three-quarters of a length. Bawaardi is a half-brother to the two-year-old stakes winner Freestyle and will prove to be a very handy juvenile on a bigger track.

C’EST LA GUERRE – As has been widely reported in the aftermath, the Cox Plate was a one-act affair with Maldivian getting away with murder from the 1600 metres to the 600 metres. C'est La Guerre's sectional time was unavailable but he was held up a couple of times in the run to the line but was the best of the backmarkers. His last two runs have been excellent and the New Zealand Derby winner is coming along beautifully for the Melbourne Cup.

PERMISSION TO LAND – Put simply, this mare was as stiff as a board in the Inglis Mile. After settling in a nice slot midfield, pilot error saw Permission to Land back near last on the home turn before running on well until stopped in her tracks with 75 metres to go. The John O’Shea mare picked herself up and launched herself at the finish line to just miss. There is no doubt she should have won the race and it will be interesting to see if trainer John O’Shea joins the list of those that have barred Craig Williams from riding their horses.

Geelong Race 2-6 VALIDATOR Unplaced

Got back near last as expected, in a moderate pace and made ground on the turn 3 wide.

However never accelerated under Michael's Riding. I ignored one of my selection rules, because his

last run was such an eye catcher. This horse has only won, one race from 16 starts he's a non winner,

not saying he won't win more races, just not with my money on him.

Geelong Race 10-4 TOUR GUIDE 1st $3.00-$1.60

Jumped just OK, ridden along to get outside the leader, and was under alot of pressure coming around the turn

Damien showed why he's such a great rider by lifting this fellow off the canvas to win by a nose.
Doomben Race 6-3
FIREDRAKE 1st $3.00-$1.70

Ridden hard to lead and he relaxed well when getting to the front, Natasha judged the pace well in front and he

put 3 lenghts on them at the 400m and won convincingly.

Mooney Valley Race 5-4 Lucky Secret 1st $4.20-$1.80

Jumped well and was challanged for the lead , sat just inside the leader untill the turn. Acellerated

on straightening and it was all over in a blink of an eye.Great Horse, Great price.

Mooney Valley Race 10-8 PRINCESS MARIZZA 2nd $1.80

Got back near last as expected, in a fast pace and made ground on the turn 3 & 4 wide.

Came with a strong run and just missed, it was probably asking to much for Michael to ride four winners.

Rosehill Race 4-6 BABY CASINO unplaced

Fired up out of the gates and couldn't lead sat 2nd over-racing and using up energy,

never looked the winner in the straight. he a better horse than that forgive one bad run.

(Stewards Report) When questioned, J Cassidy, rider of Baby Casino stated

his mount overraced badly throughout and was inclined to hang out on the turns. He added that as

a result, when crossed early by Armstrong Jones, he came to the outside of the heels of that

runner as he felt Baby Casino was travelling too strongly to take a trail behind that runner.

Doomben Race 5-7 MOPPETT unplaced

Great ride 5th the fence, and eased off behind the leaders, and never got to the line like his last run.

Doomben Race 9-1 DEACON 3rd $1.60

Got back in a fast pace, Adrian tryed to save ground and get up the inside on the turn. However

ran into plenty of dead ends, when he finally got clear flew to the line late, too late.
