SATURDAY 18th OF AUGUST – CAULFIELD

Caulfield Race 6 – PB Lawrence Stakes
Luckgray ($3.00) is top pick. He has proven Group 1 quality, is very capable at WFA and would be odds on if the track was firm. The fit horse, Ready To Rip ($4.80) has the Moody/Nolen factor and looks drawn to get the perfect run, he’ll be very competitive again. Heart Of Dreams($6.00) and Rekindled Interest ($5.50) are the class runners, proven at WFA. They’ll probably need this run early in their spring preparation, but expect them to be running on late.

TOP FOUR – 6, 11, 3, 7

Caulfield Race 7 – Cockram Stakes
Best race of the day with many proven mares engaged. South Australian visitor, Avoid Lightning ($5.50) is a winner of 5 from 6, so clearly very talented. She was impressive winning on the slow last start beating some handy types. She’ll go forward and make her own luck. Le Societe ($6.00) comes through the same race where she was a tad disappointing in Adelaide, but she’s fit, proven at Caulfield and loves the wet. Lady Melsham ($4.80) is up in grade but looks untapped and must be considered. The fit mare Rue Maple ($13.00) is drawn well, down in weight and is super consistent.
 TOP FOUR -- 9-14-10-11

Rosehill Race 6 – Starlight Stakes
An interesting race for punters. Satin Shoes ($3.00) is scratched. . See The World ($4.00) comes off a freshen up, but has developed into a very good sprinter. Skytrain ($5.50) carried too much weight last start, but is down 4kg for this assignment and racing consistently. Mrs Onassis ($8.50), first up from a long break, is a knock out chance. She’s lightly raced and has shown plenty of ability.
TOP FOUR --4-8-2-9

Today's Selections July 28th, 2012

Best bet - Caulfield R6 N1 Green Birdie

Class 1200m runner of the field who looks very well placed here second up. Drew the car park and was hooked straight back when resuming before not being able to get a crack at them in the straight and was untested to the line. Drawn better and can take up a better position in running here and it's hard to see him not winning.

Value bet - Warwick Farm R5N4 She’s clean

Value bet - Warwick Farm R8 N4 My Vegas

One at a bit of odds. Has some very good runs at Warwick Farm over the short trips. Finished 0.60L behind La Remlap here over 1000 on Jan 7, 2012 and meets her 7kg better here. Form this prep has been good and will appreciate getting onto a firm track. Will get back but tempo should be good and they do fan out on the turn at Warwick Farm so will get a run.

FRESH from an autumn campaign in which he battled the best sprinters in the country, African Pulse will try to rediscover the winning feeling at Flemington on Saturday as trainer Mike Moroney takes aim at some early spring sprints.

Considered a sprinter of great potential by his trainer, African Pulse contested the Oakleigh Plate and Newmarket Handicap at just his fifth and sixth runs and was found wanting in two of the toughest races on the calendar.

But rather than change his opinion of the horse, Moroney preferred to reconsider his plans with the son of Johannesburg heading into the spring in order to coax a return to the winner's circle.

''He went well enough without getting into those races, they were tough races considering he was a lightly raced three-year-old,'' Moroney said.

Good punting
