FRESH from an autumn campaign in which he battled the best sprinters in the country, African Pulse will try to rediscover the winning feeling at Flemington on Saturday as trainer Mike Moroney takes aim at some early spring sprints.
Considered a sprinter of great potential by his trainer, African Pulse contested the Oakleigh Plate and Newmarket Handicap at just his fifth and sixth runs and was found wanting in two of the toughest races on the calendar.
But rather than change his opinion of the horse, Moroney preferred to reconsider his plans with the son of Johannesburg heading into the spring in order to coax a return to the winner's circle.
''He went well enough without getting into those races, they were tough races considering he was a lightly raced three-year-old,'' Moroney said.
