Sandown Race 4-7 STREET CLASSIC Declared a Non starter
Anticipated the start by jumping into the gates and springing his gate opened before the start. Came out 5 lenghts behind them, and raced like he had concussion, made some ground on the turn but never travelled like he was going to win. (Stewards report) Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards viewed the patrol film to ascertain whether or not Street Classic had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from D Yendall rider of Street Classic and starters Mr D McClure and Mr P Doherty, it was established that Street Classic lunged forward which resulted in the gates of Street Classic opening prior to the start being effected. In accordance with the provisions of AR134A the Stewards were satisfied that in these particular circumstances Street Classic had been denied a fair start which materially prejudiced its chances of running in the first three placings given the ground it lost at the start and its normal racing pattern. Subsequently the Stewards ordered the following deductions to betting. All monies bet for a win and/place and concession betting on Street Classic to be refunded. All successful bets on the horses prior to the time of withdrawal of Street Classic were subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win bets 17 cents, place bets 15 cents, winning concession bets 17 cents and double bets 17 cents. All monies bet after the Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of the ticket.
